We are a non-profit organization in Nelson County, Kentucky serving developmentally disabled members of our community with a family-like environment that enables them to acquire life skills training and achieve independence through work opportunities.
Country Gardens was founded by Richard “Dickie” Roby in 1985 as a family owned retail business offering primarily fresh fruits and vegetables. It has, over the years, grown into a robust operation providing a wide variety of food products, plants, flowers, garden accessories, as well as country hams and sausage prepared onsite.
In 2018, Roby and his partner, Clarissa Gordon, elected to donate the business to the Guthrie Opportunity Center to allow the Foundation to continue to operate the business. This donation has allowed the GO Center to generate funds to expand and improve the programs for its disabled participants.
The GO Center’s Garden Program is located at our main facility at 900 Nutter Drive in Bardstown, and is led by our Garden Director, Eric Garris. The Program includes multiple acres of vegetable and fruit gardens as well as a large, modern greenhouse. These garden facilities provide employment opportunities for our developmentally disabled participants while providing home-grown, organic items for sale at our Country Gardens retail location.
Clarissa Gordon continues to oversee the operations at Country Gardens after she and Dickie Roby’s generous donation of the business to the Guthrie Opportunity Center. Clarissa has worked in the Country Gardens operation for over 30 years.
Maggie Decker is the Manager of the Country Garden’s day-to-day operations. Maggie has formerly worked in various roles within retail businesses, including food service and fitness.
